Calderdale
and Huddersfield NHS Trust
Good
points

•

•
No tissue viability concerns
•
The commode is easy to manoeuvre
Concerns
•
The bedpan is not compatible with all types of hospital
bedpan washers.
•
The seat is uncomfortable.
•
The armrest surface is a little too rough.
•
The holes in the seat and foot rest are traps for moisture
and spilled fluids and are difficult to clean.
•
Will the seat cushion and backrest be easy to clean?
•
The commode has no lid.
•
The arm rest and commode seat appear rough and could cause
friction injuries to patients with fragile skin.
•
Difficulty was encountered when moving the arm rests.
•
Could possibly stain.
•
The patient could feel the bedpan being removed.
As discussed in our recent phone conversation, it is my
opinion that three design features could be modified in
order to make the commode more suitable for use in the acute
hospital setting:
•
The seat should have some form of lid or cover.
•
The seat was uncomfortable.
•
The bedpan does not fit all makes of bedpan washer due to
its length.
Despite
the above comments, your commode was a clear winner in all
ergonomic aspects of the trial.
